12 and scared of the dark

this is so embarrassing but i'm still scared of the dark. this all started back when i was little .my dad mam and other people were in the living room. i cant really remember why but my dad shut and locked me in the kitchen and tuned off the light. i was too small to turn it back on so i just crawled up in a ball and cried with fear after trying to kick the door down. hes done this a few times to punish me , i think i should be punished but not in this way , i mean its like if your scared of spiders ,if you do something wrong then you get locked in a room filled with them . anyways any tips to overcome my fear?

Your dad gave you a mental trauma, maybe he did not know that he was causing you one.

Anyways, the only thing that you must be afraid of the dark is to stumble over your face :) , you must overcome your fear little by little.

For example, in the day try to be under something that you can control to switch between to be on the dark or light (in example, your sheets). When you feel despair calm yourself, after all, you can see the light when you want it. Do it camly, open your eyes on the dark, feel it, control it, and use it (it is a good hiding place, you know?). And if you pay attention, you will be able to walk around your house
without need of light, and to surprise somebody with a good joke.

Understand why you're afraid of darkness.
Tell yourself "
There's nothing lurking over there to get me/ dark must follow light: get used to it".
Trying shutting yourself in a large dark cupboard. Keep the lights off and remove flashlights from the room. Note: Always keep a friend/sibling/parent outside the cupboard in case the door gets jammed.
Take a walk with a good friend through the park at night. Tell the caretaker to keep the lights out while you're there. Use a small flashlight as the only source of illumination.
Stay out of doors for about half-an-hour on a dark, stormy night. Remember to keep an umbrella near-by in the case of rain.
Consult a friend they're sure to help you, one who won't laugh but take the matter seriously and help you.
Play hide-and-seek at night, with absolutely no light. This helps you get used to the dark while having fun. Note: This might be childish for teenagers and beyond.
Get some friends to talk about the fun things that can be done in the dark. Like grabbing each other's heads, or for kids (1-12) hide-and-seek.

Tips:
Always keep someone with you, in case you get too much sacred.
Remember: Darkness always follows light. Where there is light, there shall be dark. You must get used to this fact.
There is no such things as ghosts or monsters.

Warnings
Before careful not to hurt yourself in the dark.

P.S.
