Ugh...insomnia?

Posted by an anonymous user on 11/27/2008 4:18:00 AM
I've always been having trouble with sleep.I might go to sleep early or late, but no matter what time I go to sleep I will always wake up in the middle of the night or early in the morning, and then I can't go back to sleep for hours even if I wanted to.It's 5:05a.m as i'm typing, and I woke up an hour ago. This is not good, especially on school days because the light in every class burns my eyes from lack of sleep, I get tired and can't pay attention which effects my work, and it's kinda dark around my eyes.I don't know what's keeping me awake all the time...but I do know that my thoughts have a big part in why I can't sleep. The closest I can get to sleep is lay in bed in the dark with my eyes closed, and it takes me around an hour or more to fall asleep.I don't take sleeping pills and I wouldn't want to because it's not natural, by that I mean I don't like forcing the body to do something like sleep by pills, i'd rather sleep on my own.Does anybody know how I can solve this problem? I really need your advice..

Another trick is to stay in a dim lit area for half an hour before going to bed (forces your body to think its time for bed i'm a night owl, more then half the time i have to do this to sleep, biological clock says stay awke when its bright and sleep when its dark computers tvs and other devices trick you into thinking its day time )

I agree with the anti-pill idea,
Try a few of these things which could help:

> Deep Breathing; lie on your back and focus on your breathing, having long in breaths and out breaths. Try to fill your stomach and diaphram with air, and try to relax. Think soothing thoughts. Don't give up too early, and don't strain yourself.
> Lavender; oil, scented candles, scented teddy, or the real deal.
> Muscle clenches; start with your feet. Sqeeze really really tight, toes and everything, for about 5 seconds, then realease. Repeat for everything moving up your body, legs, arms, hands, fingers, sholders, face, neck, bum, etc then all together. This one is quite good.
> Try having a hot steamy shower before you go to bed
> Avoid Tv, computers, electronic things, mp3s, phones etc before you go to bed. Try reading or listening to a stereo with classical or soft music, not headphones.
> Try sleeping in a cool area, the worst thing is to be hot.
> Have a soft matress, doona, pillows and pillow cases. Be comfy its your bed!
> Fill your day. Exersise (but not right before bed) be busy so you have something to be tired over.
> Write a journal. Spill out all your thoughts of the day and finish with 'All will be better in the morning' or something uplifting and dismissive.
> Have a set time for bed, and an alarm to wake you in the morning. Have an upbeat yet soft tune, rather than a BEEP BEEP or vibrating, and try to wake up with in 10 minutes, and just have a lie there. Try not to go back to sleep!

Well thats the most i can think of at the moment.
I hope it helps
:)
