Yeah I cut.

I don't understand the "dangers" of cutting and why people say it is "unhealthy".As long as you don't cut deep enough where you would need stitches or cut so much you lose too much blood then it's fine. It's the same thing as getting scratched by a thorn bush...the only difference is it is on purpose not by accident.Right?

It's been said before, but I guess there's no harm in saying it again...it's the psychological trauma that's unhealthy. Cutting is a way of avoiding the main problem. Yes, it may have a calming influence in the moment, but it doesn't deal with the probelms directly. You do more damage by providing yourself with a temporary relief that's transcient.

Then there's the scars. If you get scars, they stay there as a reminder of your self loathing/pain/hate/frustration that you have inflicted upon yourself. They can become a source of shame, something that you want to cover up. It digs you deeper.

From reading posts on here and other places, I've realised that it's not just the feeling of relief that can be addictive - it's the attention due to the visible cuts and scratches. It makes it a addictive habit. People can develop a craving for attention (people showing they care.) Why is this unhealthy? you may ask. Doing anything for attention creates a psychological vacuum. It creates a problem that wasn't there before. You become dependant.

I could go on and on about that.

As for physical dangers...I think someone has already mentioned getting infections. People can get an infection from just the tiniest of papercuts (personal experience.) After your skin is abused, making it take longer to heal etc, it's very possible that an infection can develop from bacteria entering the wound. That's not very pretty and hurts like hell. I'm no doc, but I'm thinking that there may be the possibility of complication arising from this if it is sufficiently serious and spreads.

So yeah, it isn't healthy.

I HAD a friend who cut and while she was doing it, thought she was such a hardass. One(or more) of her cuts got infected and so disgusting. All that crap that is flying through the air nowadays...not smart at all.

You can get addicted and start to cut deeper.

It can get you sent to the mental hosptial, whether you like or not.

You can lose friends

Good luck wearing longs sleeves forever.

A shallow cut isn't always going to cut it.(No pun) You'll end up wanting more.

Pretty soon you'll be painting with you blood.(I have a fucked up family. What losers)

Its unhealthy because there is a reason why you hurt yourself. It must be psychological.
I'm sure that if you deal with the problem you may have, you will stop cutting or hurting yourself in any manner.

And I'm not just pulling words out of my ass, I use to cut too, but I finally let go of all the unnecessary crap that kept me cutting and I stopped.

And I hope you can too.
Good luck ^_^

No, not right. Just because you do it on purpose makes it different!
You shouldn't do this, there are other ways of coping. You can be alright again!
Trust me, I know. I've been a cutter since I was 13, and I'm trying to stop.
I feel the urge everyday, but I know it doesn't help. You'll feel better for a minute, but after than it'll all be bad again. Talk to someone.
Please.
