It's marijuana.. Stop acting as though he's addicted to Heroin.. And also, Physical addiction to it is impossible. The benefits of smoking are FAR greater than any of it's supposed "Risks". Research the plant before passing down judgement of it. And I don't mean just sit back and receive what media portrays. The only reason It was even made illegal in the first place was because Hemp was so versatile, they feared it could ruin the wood paper industry...
Even non-fiction is an inspiration.. Hell, Non-Fiction is really just journalism.. And you do draw influence from outside sources, whether you consciously acknowledge it or not.. Feelings you possess are the only thing you could truly call your own.. So if you only write "I feel happy!" or something along those lines, then you can say you only draw influence from within. But the second you start to write a story based around your feeling, outside influences come into play.. Whether it be a situation you witnessed or a character based on your mother.. Everybody has a muse.. And that's simply fact.
I don't agree because it's what "the masses" accept... I believe it because it's logical and can be backed up with a valid argument... This isn't a debate like religion. This can be backed by evidence and common sense. Do not pawn it off as though I believe it just because it's the popular road.. Hell, I'm fighting "the masses" opinion on multiple subjects, but not this one.. Because I side with facts and truth, NOT popular belief.
Mopy, I feel He's looking for inspiration from other writers, not to steal work.. It's a common and accepted tool that every writer utilizes... Doesn't make him/her Scum..
Every single writer draws inspiration from outside influences.. Those influences connect your mind to think in the mood you wish.. EVERY SINGLE WRITER.. You, this guy, your favorite author, myself.. Nobody creates from sheer and total imagination.. True stories that the author witnessed, things the author thought of after reading another book.. Nothing's original anymore. And yes, even the first stories written were influenced in some form or fasion by every day economics and life. Everything has influence in it from a previous work...
That'll change later in life, lol.. But seriously, enjoy and cherish it while you can..
